―Mejiro Bright

Mejiro Bright is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

Profile[]

A tranquil horse girl who goes through life by her own pace. As a result of these characteristics, however, she tends to be clumsy and air-headed, leading to low expectations of her despite being from the Mejiro family.

Despite this, she still achieves things by going her own way and sees tasks through to the end. Some even say that she may just be the Mejiro family's biggest trump card.[1]

Appearance[]

Bright is a horse girl with wavy long brown hair. Her hair mostly hangs loose except for twin braids done up in front and a prominent ahoge. Bright also has yellow to light brown eyes. She wears a white & turquoise green (the characteristic "Mejiro colors") striped bow and a length of pleated cloth on her right ear. Bright's overall appearance resembles that of a younger Maruzensky.

Relationships[]

Tsurumaru Tsuyoshi - Roommate.

  • In the anime first season, Mejiro Ryan substitutes her as Mejiro Bright was present during the 1998-1999 period.
  • Bright calls Mejiro Dober without honorific title (-san or -chan and so on).
  • She calls Ryan "Onee-sama". Ryan says she is "like" a sister, so it means "older girl". Real-life relationships are in below.
  • She has dolls named "Maki-chan" and "Kyu-chan". Their names probably come from Bright's foals, Makihata Cyborg and Dream Cube.

Real Life[]

Until the day an injury found and retired, he ran with his best for four years and two months.
G1 title he got was only one, though, Mejiro Bright left his footprints on the history in the end of 20th century.
His bright steps were the very string that connects precious home-bred bloodline.
―100 Bucephaluses of the 20th Century[2]

Mejiro Bright is a racehorse in the late 1990s. He ran long-distance grade races, and brought the last Tenno Sho Shield for Mejiro Farm.

  • He was known as a late-response horse. however his jockey drove, he would not accelerate himself soon.
  • His maiden race was considered to be very low-level, as the horses who raced were barely contenders. Even though Mejiro Bright won the race, some people from the crowd heckled with insults like, "Are you walking?!"
  • His name Bright comes from Japanese limited express Kagayaki[Note 1]. Mejiro Farm named their 1994-born colts from railway-related term.
  • Mejiro Dober is the same age as Bright. Mejiro Ryan is their father[Note 2]. Maruzensky is his grandfather.
  • After Mejiro McQueen, Ryan and Palmer were retired, Mejiiro Farm couldn't win any G1 races. The Shield he won was the first one after McQueen.
    • And it was the last Shield. The last G1 Mejiro won was 2000 Asahi Hai 3-year-old Stakes[Note 3] by Mejiro Beiley, his half-brother.

Notes[]

  1. Not shinkansen one.
  2. Bright and Dober are not counted as siblings. In the horse world, horses that have same mother are called so.
  3. Now Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes. "3-year-old" means now and internationally "2-year-old".
