- ―Mayano Top Gun
Mayano Top Gun is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Profile[]
A rambunctious young genius of an Umamusume who seeks affection from everyone she meets. Having a pilot for a father, Mayano Top Gun often mixes aviation lingo into her speech. Her tendency to obsess over whatever new and exciting thing is in front of her betrays how far she is from becoming the mature, sophisticated lady of her dreams. However, she does possess incredible intuition and an almost supernatural sense of the right thing to do in any situation.
Appearance[]
Mayano Top Gun is an umamusume who has long chestnut orange hair in a short-tailed two side up hairstyle as well as orange eyes. She wears a brown bandana around her right ear.
Her design is clearly influenced by the movie Top Gun (her jacket is nearly identical to that worn by Maverick). While not exactly dressed to fly a Tomcat, a Super Hornet, or a Lightning II, her racing outfit consists of a yellow, green and white set of short shorts with the lower half of a parachute harness with ejection seat handles and crop top under a bomber jacket adorned with many badges. She also wears a pair of brown thighhighs, sneakers and a pair of dog tags.
When it came to promote Top Gun: Maverick (or, rather, due to her very presence), she was the natural choice to advertise the movie.

Notes[]
- In 1995, the Great Hanshin Earthquake struck Kobe, and his owner Dr. Yu Tadokoro lost his own hospital and his brother. Top Gun won Kikka Sho and encouraged him, and people in Kobe. In this year, a baseball team in Kobe Orix Blue Wave[Note 1] also became a league champion. Sugimoto's commentary refered to the two victory by the Kobe horse and the team.
Trivia[]
- Her jacket is an homage to the original Top Gun film. However, it was too similar, so it was changed in July 2021.
- On her and "his" birthday in 2021, the film's sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, offered their congratulations on "them" on their Japanese official Twitter account. On August 28, it was announced that umamusume Mayano Top Gun would become an "advertising pilot" for the movie.
- She consequently appeared in an alternate official Japanese movie poster for Maverick, replacing Tom Cruise's Capt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in front of an F-18 Hornet.[2]
- Her voice actor Mio Hoshitani and Tokai Teio's Machico appeared on the release event.
- In the game version, the movie poster was on the bulletin board in the Tracen Academy entrance.
- Mayano Top Gun was originally to be voiced by Ayaka Imamura, as announced by Cygames in 2017, but Imamura retired in 2018 due to her declining health. Since then, the character has been voiced by Mio Hoshitani.[3]
