- “"Hello! They call me Matikanefukukitaru! I believe in the divine messages of Shiraoki-sama, and I constantly am working on my fortune telling, waiting for the day I'll be blessed with good fortune!"”
- ―Matikanefukukitaru
Matikanefukukitaru (マチカネフクキタル, Machikane Fuku Kitaru) is a character in Uma Musume: Pretty Derby.
Profile[]
A bit of an eccentric horse girl who loves supernatural things, like divination, superstitions, and the like. She enjoys checking the “fortune-telling corner” in magazines, even when she gets a bad fortune. She believes that luck is the most important factor in a race, and actually seems to display astounding ability on lucky holidays (perhaps it’s just her mindset?) She has a wholesome, good-natured personality. She has trouble declining newspaper sellers on the street. It seems that she often gets tricked into scams…
Appearance[]
Matikanefukukitaru is a horse girl who has short orange to brown flipped hair and brown to amber eyes with constant starry eyes. She wears a daruma hair ornament on her left temple and a clover hair ornament to her right. She also wears a single ear cover on her right ear.
Her racing outfit consists primarily of a relatively simple white, blue and red serafuku. It has a bagua motif on the back of the sailor collar, has open shoulders and is decorated with small bows on the sleeves. Like all horse girls, she wears black bike shorts under her skirt, but her pair is somewhat longer and often visible.
She also wears a belt with ema dangling from it, one saying "Great Luck" and another saying "Assured Victory". On her back is a backpack shaped like a maneki-neko, itself wearing several amulets on it's collar. She wears ribbon-trimmed thighhighs with alternating colors and her shoes are simple loafers. She can also be seen holding a crystal ball.
Her other racing outfit, dubbed as "Full Armor" is an orange dress with various charms, a small handbag with chick image in it as well as wearing a orange beret and a bag with more charms placed as a keychain.

Matikanefukukitaru is a racehorse in the late 1990s. He is the first and last G1 winner in more than 600 Matikane squadron. His acceleration at the stretch overwhelmed Silence Suzuka at Kobe Shimbun Hai. Some of fans and trainers say he was the strongest 3-year-old horse in 1997.
- His name is "Machikane Fuku Kitaru" in regular Japanese spelling. Racehorse's names are internationally limited by 18 letters, including spaces. So "chi(チ)" is shortened to "ti", and space is omitted. This is the same reason as Matikanetannhauser.
- His name "Fuku Kitaru" means "fortune comes". With his contemporary Matikanewaraukado, these come from a Japanese proverb "Warau Kado ni wa Fuku Kitaru (Fortune comes in a home with laughter)".
- Matikanewaraukado won Tokai Kikka Sho (G2) in Nagoya. Both became "Kikka Sho" horses.
- Harry Seeney, former general manager of Machikane Farm, later founded a racehorse club. It was named Fukukitaru Co., Ltd. after him. The company investing to Fukukitaru was named Waraukado Co., Ltd. after Matikanewaraukado.
- He belongs to Shiraoki family line. Others are Special Week and Vodka.
- He has a brother Athena Tosho's 1991[Note 2]. he was euthanized by breaking his neck bone when he was a foal. He is supposed as a model of Fukukitaru's "Onee-chan".
- He lived his late years in Kosuta Farm with Matikanetannhauser. Many fans visited him to be given his "fortune". "Her" voice actor Hiyori Nitta did, too. He lived long as his name suggests until the age of 26.
