ROAR! Look away from me and I'll bite you!
―Shinko Windy

Personality[]

A wolf--er, I mean, horse girl with sharp teeth and a mean biting habit. A mischievous brat who likes playing pranks on people, Shinko Windy always needs at least one person supervising her at all times due to her moods getting the best of her. While her biting actually stems from an internal need for attention, she is completely unaware of this and pretends to be a wild animal.

Even though she's not the smartest or most calm horse girl around, she makes up for with her energy and by being a powerhouse in dirt racing.

Appearance[]

Shinko Windy is a horse girl who has short brown hair with darker brown sidelocks and a small white tuft above her forehead. She also has purple eyes and sharp teeth, and wears an ear ornament shaped like a circular band on her right ear.

Real Life[]

The roar in the dawn
Mowing trees,
Crashing rocks,
Many predecessors has built the roads.
Succeeding those wills,
The ferocious beast runs.
He melts frozen sand
With his scorching roar.
Now the dawn breaks
And new age begins.
―JRA Portrait of the Bucephalus[1]

Shinko Windy is a racehorse of the late 1990s. He won several dirt grade races, including a G1. He became the first winner of JRA's first central GI race in 1997. He also liked biting humans or other horses and had lost two races because of his habit.

At birth[]

Shinko Windy liked pranks and biting humans since he was a foal.

When he was one year old, he was bought by Osamu Yasuda, the president of exterior trading company Shinko Sangyo Co.

In 1996 (3 years old)[]

After he won his dirt maiden race, he ran three turf races. Since he could not win any of them, he returned to a dirt race on the fifth run. He won the 5 million limited race, so his team decided to concentrate on dirt racing afterwards.

It was time for his sixth run, Tateyama Special (9 million). He bit Daiwa Ocean's neck just before the winning post, but ignored him and ended up finishing in first place. Although Windy lost, he became popular after the race for his unusual behaviour.

He tried a G3 race as his next run, the Unicorn Stakes. In those days, it was one of the races in the Dirt Triple Crown, and his team planned to accumulate his reward for entering the next big races with. Shinko Windy tried to overtake from seventh place, but he could not catch up Battle Line, and "lost" to him by three lengths. However, Battle Line was demoted to tenth because of his skewing, and Windy was promoted to first place. This was his first grade race win.

At the second leg of the Crown, Super Dirt Derby, just as he was about to overtake Sanlife Teio, Windy bit Teio's rump. Teio looked surprised, and dashed faster. His jockey whipped him and they passed the goalpost thanks to Shinko Windy. His biting was nothing but a loss, and he ended up in second.

At the Derby Grand Prix, the last Crown, he exhausted after transferring to Morioka. Windy lost to Ishino Sunday in third, who had lost to him at the previous race. Since Ishino Sunday had won the Satsuki-Sho, he became the first and only Turf-dirt mixed "eccentric Double Crown" horse.

In 1997 (4 years old)[]

From this year, he wore blinkers not to bite others. At the Heian Stakes (G3), he tied with Toyo Seattle and became the grade race winner, by himself this time.

He entered the Febrary Stakes (G1). From this year onwards, it promoted to G1 and became JRA's first big dirt GI. On race day, the racetrack was the worst, it was pretty much like a swamp. Nevertheless, Shinko Windy overtook several horses from the inside, desperately fought with Stone Stepper, and finally won his first G1 title. He became the first central G1 winner, and was expected to be the next Hokuto Vega.

However, he couldn't win after that, and leg anxieties were found. He ended up resting for two years.

In 1999 (6 years old)[]

He strangely returned to racing by entering the Yasuda Kinen (G1), but he lost in thirteenth. After all, he couldn't win any race and his leg anxieties recurred after the Nippon TV Hai (G2). His team decided to retire him afterwards.

After retirement[]

He became a stallion in Shinko Farm, however, his owner parted with his farm and horses in 2001, because of his company's unprofitable operation. Windy's foals were only 20, and no grade race winners.

Shinko Farm was purchased by Darley Japan Farm Ltd. Windy was also transferred to Darley Japan Stallion Complex as a merit horse and a teaser horse[Note 1]. While he was usually unfavoured as a breeding stallion, he became a great teaser stallion.
