Agnes Tachyon (アグネスタキオン, Agunesu Takion) is a character in the Umamusume franchise, introduced in the Umamusume: Pretty Derby - Beginning of a New Era movie serving as a co-protagonist. She is a student at Tracen Academy.
Profile[]
Equal parts researcher and runner, Agnes Tachyon pursues the limits of speed with the power of science. She will stop at nothing to quench her pure thirst for knowledge, performing all manner of experiments on living subjects—unauthorized, dangerous experiments, at that. Her extreme tunnel vision means that without someone to support her, day-to-day necessities quickly fall to the wayside.
Personality[]
Agnes is a very intelligent, educated and curious girl.[1] Her main passion is her research project, “finding the outer limits of speed”. She spends most of the time on her research project, sometimes she can get even obsessed about it. Agnes regularly misses out on races or classes to prioritize her research.[2][3] She is not willing to sacrifice any time for other activities, such as cooking or training. Agnes is also very excited and determined about her scientific experiments.[1][2][4] She values her research project so much that she is even willing to accept severe sanctions from the school.
Agnes is direct, honest and speaks her mind freely.[2] She can be disagreeable and tells others what she truly thinks of them. She doesn’t shy away of being blunt or even a bit rude occasionally.[2][5] Sometimes she laughs outs loud, even in inappropriate situations. Agnes is a free spirit and does as she pleases. She acts non-conforming and doesn’t go with the crowd. She seems to care little about what others think of her.
With the trainer, Agnes is direct, honest, blunt. Sometimes, she is a bit playful or even teases them. She calls them "guinea pig", as the trainer volunteers to be Agnes’ test subject for her experiments. She places high demands on the trainer and sometimes acts dominant.[4][6]
Appearance[]
Agnes Tachyon is a short, young woman, who also has fair skin, and short, messy brown hair with a prominent ahoge bent backwards at an odd angle with horse ears. Also has red eyes with conspicuously missing "eyeshine" that are 'marked' with, strange, horizontal grid-like patterns. Tachyon also wears a single earring on her right horse ear in the shape of the chemical structure of indane
Tachyon's most salient trait is her long lab coat, worn as part of her racing outfit. This labcoat has so-called "moe sleeves" running past her fingers, as well as striped patches on the upper sleeves. The hip section of the coat is adorned, and detailed with two pairs of 'throwing bandoliers' filled with corked test tubes containing a mysterious glowing blue liquid.
Tachyon's full racing outfit also features a yellow sweater vest worn over a black collared shirt with a blackish-dark-navy necktie, in a style similar to that favored by some real-life scientists. This outfit also has black pantyhose and white, 'high, heeled-boots'.

- IRL: Owned by Takao Watanabe. Digital is one year older than Tachyon, however, they never fought because Tachyon's retirement was early.

- Japanese commentary is completely same as the real-life one.
- Agnes Tachyon was expected that he won the Triple Crown, so the announcer says "first". However, "second" one did not come.
Trivia[]
- In the game version, she tries to let her trainer be a "guinea pig".
- The term "tachyon" refers to a theoretical particle that exceeds the speed of light.
- In the game, her main objective could either be NHK Mile or Japan Derby depending on her mood after racing in the Satsuki Sho. If her mood is good or great, her main objective remains the Japan Derby. If her mood was normal or worse, her main objective changes to NHK Mile. Tachyon's mile aptitude is D, making it hard for her to complete the objective, let alone winning it without proper mile inheritance.
